Creating an old T-shirt you don't wear anymore or even a shirt you may see in the store is super easy following a few steps and is great for spring and summer time. Although it is simple, you do want to be a bit cautious when cutting and sewing ensuring not to cut the direct seem as well as not hurt or cut yourself in the process.
Step 1.) Grab your tools and materials. - T-shirt - Scissors - Thread and sewing needle - Iron ( optional ) Step 2.) Cutting Lay out your shirt completely flat so you can get the best result, you can use an iron to make it more even. Find the seams on the sleeves of your shirt wear it has been sewn. CAREFULLY cut an inch away above the seam so you still have some fabric to work with after cut the sleeve completely off. Step 3.) Sewing Grab the inch of fabric you left from the sleeve and fold it inside. Take your sewing needle and re-sew the fabric back onto the original seam, this just insures you have a neat line that will look professionally made instead of it being rugged and choppy. Distressing your own clothing is a great, quick and easy way to give your clothes some more edge and style. Here are my quick easy tips and tricks to distress your own clothing at home.
Step .1) Grab your tools and materials. - clothing (denim/jean works best) - scissors - shaving razor - marking tool ( chalk, pen, tape, sharpie, etc.) - washer and dryer Step 2.) Start marking and cutting. - Take your clothing item and put it on, this will help you know where you want to place your cuts, and mark the places you desire with your marking tool. Once you have it marked, take the item off and being making slits in the marks. Step 3.) Finishing the look. - use your shaving razor and gently scrap over the slits to soften up the lines and make it look more natural and less harsh as if you didn't purposely cut up your own clothing. After you soften up the lines, throw them in the washer and dryer ( 2x is preferred ) and your now ready to rock out with your new and edgy, grungy look. |
